Dead Sara is a hard rock band from Los Angeles, consisting of Emily Armstrong (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Sean Friday (drums, backing vocals), Siouxsie Medley (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Chris Null (bass guitar, backing vocals) best known currently for their single "Weatherman" of their debut eponymous album Dead Sara (2012).[1]
Dead Sara received the "Best New Rock Group" award at the “3rd annual Vegas Rocks! Magazine Awards 2012” on August 26, 2012. They were also nominated for a RadioContraband Rock Radio Award as "Indie Artist of the Year" 2012 [2] and were crowned the 98.7 FM 2012 Close to Home Artist of the Year by defeating No Doubt in the final round of fan voting.[3]
"Weatherman" topped Loudwire's "10 Best Rock Songs of 2012" list beating bands like Three Days Grace, Stone Sour and Deftones to the title.[4]
Dead Sara was first featured on FUSE NEWS on 3/20/13 in which Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) commented "Dead Sara should be the next biggest Rock Band in the world".[21]
Dead Sara appeared on The Vampire Diaries on March 21, 2013, performing the songs "Ask The Angels" by Patti Smith and their own "Lemon Scent".[22] This was Dead Sara's first television or film performance and Emily and Siouxsie's second overall acting appearance together, their first being as characters in a 2007 short film by Tal Kapelner, "The G! True Tinseltown Tale: Dude Where's My Car?"[23]
The story behind Lemon Scent. "Lemon Scent" was the last song to be added to the record. I literally had started off with "Lemon Scent". It didn't make any sense with the lyrics I was throwing in there. Then, I thought, "Oh, 'Lemon Scent', I used to be a cleaner in Los Angeles". I did house cleaning and stuff. Being a house cleaner in L.A. at my age, people are like, "You're lower class". In L.A., there are people who think there's a certain status quo you need to reach in order to live in L.A. Being from here, it really pisses me off that people think that way. My love-hate relationship with people that are not necessarily from here but come here thinking they've got to be a certain way snowballed from that point. You have to have the right car. It's not very fun. "Lemon Scent" has a lot of those elements of what people think of L.A. and what they think they have to be. Being born and raised and here, we're like, "That's not how it is". A friend of ours came up with the video concept. We just went for it, and it was awesome. It's our first conceptual video.
The Official Video was published on May. 14th, 2013. (released just weeks ago)
