Have you ever given any thought to how much joy a little piece of paper can be to someone that is lonely, depressed, or ill? I can tell you that little piece of paper if it is in the form of a card can mean a lot. I myself just spent nearly a week in the hospital. This is the second time in nearly a month I have been in the hospital. The first time was not so bad but was a little ironic. My friend Paula had stayed with me nearly the whole time I was there last time, and to my surprise i had lots of visitors. Both of my brother’s 2 nieces, my oldest sister, my neighbor Patty, Paula's man and her daughter all played me visits when I was in the hospital the first time.
This time was different only my brother Roy and my sister Darlene put in an appearance. I understand why Paula and my sitter Dorothy did not make it this time, but at least they called to check on me. If it had not been for all the nurses, doctors, nurses aids cleaning people, and 1 visit each from a social worker and 2 ladies handing out little things to make people feel better I would have died of loneness. I mean really I understand people have lives and ca not devote all of them to making me happy, but would it have been so hard to do what I do sometimes when people I love are in the hospital. I will call the gift shop and have a card and usually some small present sent up to them. Not one card arrived at the hospital for me the whole time I was there. It was not till i got home found 1 lonely get well card from hundreds of miles away in my mail box. My friend Jason and his wife Susan had sent me a get well card. That card meant the world to me. That little piece of paper showed me at least 2 people thought enough to try to cheer me up,
Is it not odd a little piece of paper could have such a cheering effect on one? We all need to realize when someone is alone and scared a little thing can make them feel better. Phone calls are nice but something you can hold in your hand and look at when you are all alone means so much more.
